EMS, or Electrical Muscle Stimulation, is a training method that uses controlled electrical impulses to stimulate muscle contractions while you move through a workout. During a traditional strength training workout, your brain sends electrical signals through your nervous system telling your muscles to contract. EMS works alongside that natural process, sending additional impulses directly to the muscles through electrodes in the suit. The result? More muscle fibers can be recruited at the same time, including deeper muscle fibers and stabilizing muscles that can be harder to intentionally activate through conventional training alone.
At Club Volt, you’re not standing still while a machine does the work. You’re squatting, hinging, pressing, pulling and moving under the tension. Every exercise is personally programmed, and the intensity of the EMS is adjusted muscle group by muscle group based on your body, strength and goals. This combination makes EMS incredibly efficient. In just 20 minutes, we can create a full-body strength training session without needing heavy external loads or hours in the gym.

That means we can create a significant training stimulus with lighter loads and less mechanical stress on the joints. It’s also incredibly precise: each major muscle group can be controlled independently, allowing your trainer to increase or decrease intensity based on your strength, imbalances and goals. For postpartum clients who have been medically cleared to exercise, EMS can be incorporated into a progressive return to strength. By pairing controlled movement with targeted muscle activation, training can focus on reconnecting with and strengthening the deep core and abdominal wall, while exercises specifically designed for the pelvic floor can help rebuild strength and coordination after pregnancy and birth. EMS should complement, not replace, pelvic-floor physical therapy when rehabilitation is needed.

Yes. Whole-body EMS is safe for appropriately screened, healthy adults when it’s performed with proper equipment, progressive intensity and qualified supervision. Electrical stimulation itself isn’t new, it has been used for decades in physical therapy and rehabilitation to activate muscles, support neuromuscular function and help maintain strength when conventional loading may be limited.
At Club Volt, safety starts before the suit ever turns on. Every client is screened for contraindications, and stimulation is introduced gradually and adjusted to your individual tolerance. This is especially important during your first few sessions, when your body is adapting to a new and unusually concentrated muscular stimulus.
Hydration and recovery matter, too. Because whole-body EMS can create significant muscular demand in a short period of time, we recommend arriving well hydrated, allowing appropriate recovery between sessions and progressing intensity over time rather than chasing maximum stimulation on day one.
Certain medical conditions and circumstances, including pregnancy, implanted electronic devices such as pacemakers, and some cardiovascular, neurological or other medical conditions, may make EMS inappropriate or require medical clearance.
The goal isn’t maximum intensity. It’s the right intensity, applied intelligently. That’s why every Volt session is one-on-one and trainer-led.

Preparation is simple, but it matters. Come well hydrated, adequate fluids and electrolytes support normal muscle contraction, performance and recovery during EMS.
For your first few sessions, avoid strenuous strength training beforehand. EMS creates a significant muscular stimulus on its own, and giving your body adequate recovery time helps it adapt safely.

Twenty minutes is intentional. EMS allows us to work 12 major muscle groups within one session, creating a level of muscular demand that doesn’t require extended training time. As muscles fatigue, the quality of contraction and movement can decline. Keeping sessions to 20 minutes allows us to maintain purposeful intensity without unnecessarily overloading the body, especially because EMS can produce significant muscle fatigue that requires adequate recovery afterward. With EMS, effectiveness isn’t measured by how long you train. It’s measured by the quality of the stimulus.

Recovery is part of the training. After EMS, prioritize hydration and electrolytes to support normal muscle function, and make sure you’re getting adequate protein to provide the amino acids your body needs for muscle repair and adaptation.
Skip strenuous workouts for the remainder of the day. For your first three EMS sessions, we also recommend avoiding strenuous training the following day while your body adapts to this new stimulus. Light movement, walking, mobility work and gentle stretching, is encouraged and can help with stiffness and soreness.
Muscle soreness within the following 24–48 hours is completely normal, particularly when you’re new to EMS. Prioritize sleep, listen to your body and give yourself adequate time to recover.

Absolutely. EMS is designed to complement your existing fitness routine, not replace everything you already love doing. Strength training, Pilates, yoga, running, cycling, golf and other forms of movement all work alongside EMS.
The key is recovery. Because EMS creates a significant muscular stimulus, allow your body adequate time between demanding strength sessions and avoid repeatedly training the same muscle groups at high intensity without recovery. Around 24–48 hours is a useful general guideline, although individual recovery varies.
Think of EMS as one highly efficient piece of a well-rounded training routine: strength, mobility, cardiovascular fitness and recovery all matter.

For most clients, one to two EMS sessions per week is ideal. One weekly session can be a great addition to an existing fitness routine, while twice-weekly training provides more frequent strength stimulus for clients focused on building muscle, improving strength and progressing more quickly.
We recommend leaving at least 48 hours between EMS sessions to give your muscles adequate time to recover and adapt.
Consistency matters more than frequency. The best results come from the schedule you can maintain.

Every body responds differently, but many clients begin to feel a difference within their first few sessions, often through improved muscle awareness, strength and stability. More visible or measurable changes typically develop over several weeks of consistent training.
Your results will depend on your starting point, training frequency, nutrition, recovery and overall lifestyle. For clients training consistently, measurable results are usually seen by the sixth session. You’ll often feel the difference before you see it. Consistency is what builds the rest.
